Biographical Information[edit]

Alexander Bolgov has played for the Russian national team.

Bolgov hit .458/.519/.583 in the 2009 European Junior Championship, going 3 for 3 in steals and pitching 3 1/3 shutout innings; the lone negative was defense (.824 FLD%). He was 4th in the event in average and led in hits. [1] He debuted for the senior team in the 2016 European Championship, relieving Nikolay Markov with a surprisingly close 2-1 deficit to powerhouse the Netherlands. He allowed a Curt Smith homer but then fanned Kalian Sams. He walked former major leaguer Yurendell de Caster then got Dwayne Kemp to hit into a double play. He would pitch three times in the event to tie Denis Leonov for the team lead but had a 24.30 ERA; it was not the highest on Russia, though, as Viacheslav Shmelev and Kiril Chermoshentsev were both higher. He also was 1 for 2 at the plate, with a hit off Germany's Kevin Trisl. [2]

In the 2017 B-Level European Championship, he was 3 for 10 with 2 walks entering the finale and did not pitch. In an upset 8-3 loss to Lithuania in the finale, he started in right and went 2 for 3 with a walk and two RBI, including a solo homer for their lone run off starter Marius Balandis. [3]
