Biographical Information[edit]

Nikolay Markov has pitched for the Russian national team.

He was a bright spot for the last-place Russians in the 2016 European Championship, holding his own against the champion Kingdom of the Netherlands's Mike Bolsenbroek and Orlando Yntema, going 7 innings (6 H, 2 BB, 0 K) and allowing only two runs, both on a Chad Tromp homer. When Alexander Bolgov relieved, Russia was only down 2-1. In his other outing, he tossed 1 1/3 shutout innings against Croatia, the only successful Russian hurler in a 13-0 loss. He led Russia in ERA for the event, .41 ahead of Denis Leonov. [1]

Markov was also strong in the 2017 B-Level European Championship, retiring all six batters he faced. [2] He did not fare as well in his lone outing in the 2019 B-Level European Championship. He relieved Maksim Makarkin with a 12-11 lead over Israel, with two men in scoring position and no outs. He walked Rob Paller then gave up a game-ending two-run single to Blake Gailen. [3]
