Biographical Information[edit]
Aguedo Vasquez pitched in the minors leagues and the CPBL.
Vasquez began his professional career with the Kansas City Royals, and he had a 6.32 ERA in 8 games for the Fort Myers Royals in 1987. After changing his delivery, he collected 33 saves for the Baseball City Royals in 1988, and his ERA was 1.67 in 62 appearances. He also pitched 2 games for the AAA Omaha Royals, but he allowed 4 runs in 4 innings. He led the Florida State League in games pitched (62, 9 ahead of Chuck Everson) and saves (13 ahead of Mike Browning, the only other hurler with more than 13). He led Royals farmhands in appearances (11 more than Jim Campbell) and saves (by 11 over Luis Encarnación). Among affiliated minor leaguers, he was tied for the most saves (with Pete Delkus). He was named the FSL MVP. [1] Vasquez was 8-6 with a 4.02 ERA for the Memphis Chicks in 1989, and he notched 11 saves in 64 games. He tied Chris Marchok for third in the Southern League in appearances and tied John Hudek and Park Pittman for 7th in saves. Among Kansas City's minor leaguers, he again led in games pitched by 11 (this time Ed Olwine was second) and he tied Mel Stottlemyre Jr. for 4th in saves. The Royals then traded him to the New York Mets for Terry Leach after that season.
After changing teams, Vasquez collected 10 saves with a 3.36 ERA for the Jackson Mets in 1990, and he had a 5-7 record in 53 games. He also allowed 2 runs in 3 2/3 innings for the AAA Tidewater Tides. He was 6th in the Texas League in games pitched, while ranking 7th in saves. Among Mets farmhands, he was 4th in saves and trailed only Terry Bross in games pitched. Vasquez recorded a 3.97 ERA in 11 appearances for the Williamsport Bills, then he left the Mets organization. The Uni-President Lions signed him in 1993, but Vasquez allowed 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings. He pitched for another Taiwanese team - the Sinon Bulls - in 1996, and Vasquez struggled again as he was 0-2 with a 4.09 ERA.
