History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 2012 Cleveland Indians reeled off 11 straight losses from July 27th to August 7th, one shy of the worst losing streak in team history, dating back to 1931. They were outscored 96 to 36 during the skid and fell completely out of contention in the AL Central, going from 3 1/2 games back of the Chicago White Sox when it started, to 9 1/2 by the time it ended. This was just the beginning of a descent into the depths of the standings, however. They reeled off another 9-game losing streak in August, and after being swept at home by the Oakland Athletics on August 30th, their record stood at 5-27 since the start of the original losing streak. Their 5-24 record in August was the worst month in franchise history. On September 27th, manager Manny Acta was fired with a week to go in the season, being replaced by coach Sandy Alomar Jr.
