History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 1929 Cleveland Indians became one of the first two teams in major league history to wear uniform numbers; the other was the New York Yankees, who announced their intention to do so earlier that off-season. However, because the Yankees' first game was delayed by a rainout, the Indians were the first team to wear the numbers in an official game.
