History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 2002 Chicago Cubs set a major league record by recording 286 strikeouts in the month of August, the most in a single month by any major league team. The record held until June of 2014, when it was bettered by one by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Despite the team's misleading poor win-loss record, they boasted one of the best pitching staffs of all time, a staff which saw transition from 2001 to 2003, but always remained the best in the world.
Alex Gonzalez hit several walk-off home runs on the season.
Awards and Honors[edit]

- NL Silver Slugger Award: Sammy Sosa (OF)
