History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 2001 Chicago Cubs started off their season in good form as they rallied to first place by mid-April. They would remain in first for most of the season, even extending their lead to 5 games by the end of July.
Unfortunately, in August, the wheels fell off as the Cubs slowly (but surely) blew their lead in a collapse reminiscent of 1969 in which they went from first place 5 games ahead of the Houston Astros to 3rd place behind both the Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Awards and Honors[edit]
- All-Stars: Jon Lieber and Sammy Sosa
- NL Silver Slugger Award: Sammy Sosa (OF)
