The 1934 New York Giants had a seven-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals on September 6th but went 8-13 from there onward to finish two games behind the Cards.
Of the team's 126 home runs, a franchise record 10 were hit by pitchers: Hal Schumacher led the way with 6, and Freddie Fitzsimmons and Roy Parmelee had 2 each. Among position players, OF Mel Ott led the way with 35, followed by SS Travis Jackson with 16 and OF Jo-Jo Moore with 15.
