Zach Hammes pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Hammes was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2nd round of the 2002 Amateur Draft, between Micah Owings and Robert Andino. The 51st overall pick, he signed for a $750,000 bonus, and he was 2-2 with a 3.27 ERA for the GCL Dodgers in 2002. He went 7-11 with a 5.54 ERA for the South Georgia Waves in 2003, and he was 5-8 with a 4.55 ERA for the Columbus Catfish in 2004. Hammes stayed with the Catfish in 2005, and he was 6-3 with a 4.42 ERA. He recorded a 4.32 ERA in 40 games for the Vero Beach Dodgers in 2006, and he also pitched 15 games with a 1.23 ERA for the North Shore Honu that winter.

In 2007, Hammes was 5-8 with a 5.23 ERA for the Jacksonville Suns, and he also had a 6.43 ERA in 11 relief outings with the Peoria Saguaros in the fall. He struggled again as he was 2-5 with a 5.31 ERA in Jacksonville in 2008, then he became a free agent. The Boston Red Sox signed him in 2010, and Hammes had a 4.63 ERA in 26 appearances for the Salem Red Sox. He had a 4.56 ERA in 39 games for the Camden Riversharks in 2011, then he improved to a 3.24 ERA in 62 relief outings in 2012, tying Stephen Penney for 3rd in the Atlantic League in appearances. Hammes then signed with the EDA Rhinos of Taiwan, and he notched 12 saves with a 2.72 ERA in 31 games in 2013. He was 3rd in saves, 14 behind Brad Thomas. Hammes left Taiwan in July then returned to Camden, and he had a 1.93 ERA in 13 games. He announced his retirement after the 2013 season.
