Biographical Information[edit]

Yong-nam Kim pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization for 7 years.

Kim played for the South Korean national team in the 1980 Amateur World Series. The Haitai Tigers signed him when they were founded in 1982, and he was 9-12 with a 3.09 ERA in his first season. Kim was 9th in ERA (between Sang-soo No and Jong-kyeom Yoo), 9th in wins (between Sung-han Kim and Nak-soo Sung) and 7th in strikeouts (between Yoo and Sun-hee Lee). Kim then went 13-10 with a 2.83 ERA in 1983, ranking 8th in strikeouts (between Gil-hwan Lee and Yoo), 10th in ERA (between Sang-yun Lee and Dong-won Choi) and 5th in wins (between Gil-hwan Lee and Ho-kyun Lim).

The Gunsan native had a 7-11 record with a 3.05 ERA in 1984, then he notched 8 saves with a 11-6 record and a 4.48 ERA in 1985. He was 3rd in saves (tied with Choi and Dong-yeol Sun), 4th in appearances (between Sun and Hiroaki Fukushi) and 7th in wins (tied with Hyung-cheol Gye and Fukushi). Kim only pitched 13 games with a 4.70 ERA in 1986, then the Tigers released him. The Binggrae Eagles picked him up, and he was 4-5 with a 4.72 ERA in 1987. Kim went 8-6 with a 4.11 ERA in 1988, then he announced his retirement. He was the pitching coach of the Eagles minors team from 1990 to 1992 and the Ssangbangwool Raiders from 1993 to 1994. Kim also coached Shinil High School from 1997 to 1999 and Gunsan Commercial High School from 2003 to 2004.

Overall, Kim was 52-50 with a 3.61 ERA, struck out 407 and pitched 864 2/3 innings in 7 seasons in the KBO.
