Biographical Information[edit]

Yoanner Negrin has pitched in Cuba, Mexico and the US.

Negrin debuted for Matanzas in the 2005-2006 Cuban Serie Nacional, going 1-3 with a save and a 6.62 ERA. He improved to 3-8, 3.61 with two saves in 2006-2007. In 2007-2008, the righty had a strong campaign at 11-5, 3.37 with two saves. His five complete games tied him for second in the league (two shy of leader Pedro Luis Lazo). He tied for 5th in wins (with Alberto Bicet and Yosvani Pérez), was 6th in innings (125 2/3, between Yoelkis Cruz and Yulieski González) and gave up the 8th-most hits (131, between Ubisney Bermudez and Ismel Jiménez). In his final season in Cuba, 2008-2009, he faded to 7-8 with 7 saves and a 4.58 ERA,tying him for 7th in the league in saves. In 99 games in Cuba, he had gone 22-24 with 12 saves and a 4.31 ERA.

Negrin then defeated. He signed with the Chicago Cubs in July 2011; the scouts were Jose Serra and Louie Eljaua. He split time that summer between the AZL Cubs (0 R, 3 BB, 7 K in 4 1/3 IP, 1-0), Peoria Chiefs (2 R, 6 K in 4 1/3 IP, Sv) and Daytona Cubs (0-1, 10./38, 5 R in 4 1/3 IP). He spent most of 2012 with the Olmecas de Tabasco and did well (7-6, Sv, 3.12) but battled control problems (51 BB in 104 IP). He saw late-season action with the Tennessee Smokies (1 H, 0 R in 5 IP, 1-0) and Iowa Cubs (0-1, 3.60 in 3 G). He tied Oscar Rivera for 7th in the Mexican League in ERA despite also tying for 6th in walks.

Negrin then joined the Spanish national team for the 2013 World Baseball Classic, joining many other Cuban defectors.
