College World Series runner-up in 1947, 1948
Along with Ron Darling, one of Yale University's most prominent players to come to the majors is Wild Bill Hutchison, who won 42 games in 1890 for the Chicago National League team, and 44 games the next year for them. Both performances led the league in wins.
Commissioner of Baseball A. Bartlett Giamatti, usually known as "Bart", also went to Yale as an undergrad, and got his PhD there, and was a professor there, and was President of Yale.
President George H. W. Bush, although not a major league player, was captain of the Yale team in 1948. There is a photo taken that year of Bush, Smoky Joe Wood, and Babe Ruth, who visited New Haven one day.
Steve Greenberg, son of Hank Greenberg, is a Yalie who served as deputy commissioner of baseball from 1989-93.
