Biographical Information

Xorge Carrillo has played as high as AAA.

Carrillo did not learn English until his freshman year of high school. The Mexican native was All-State as a senior in high school in 2007. The Toronto Blue Jays took him in the 28th round of the 2007 amateur draft, one pick after Nick Tepesch, but he opted for college. He was All-Conference twice in junior college and was on the All-2008 NJCAA Division I World Series team. He hit .355 his two years in junior college. The Cleveland Indians picked him in the 29th round of the 2009 amateur draft, two picks after Mike Zunino, but he again did not sign. Transferring to ASU for his junior year, he hit .353/.439/.618 in limited action. In 2011, the senior produced at a .330/.398/.481 clip. The New York Mets chose him in the 14th round of the 2011 amateur draft. The scout was Jon Heuerman.

He made his pro debut with the Brooklyn Cyclones, hitting .217/.298/.304 as their main backstop. He hit a two-run homer his lone at-bat that winter for the Águilas de Mexicali. With the 2012 Savannah Sand Gnats, he was 6 for 39 with two walks and a homer. He split 2013 between the St. Lucie Mets (0 for 7) and Binghamton Mets (.285/.347/.391 in 55 G, backing up Blake Forsythe). He was back with Mexicali in the winter of 2013-2014 and did well as a starter (.285/.347/.391, fielding .991). He was named the LMP Rookie of the Year.

Carrillo split catching duties for Binghamton in 2014 with Kevin Plawecki; he remained steady at .283/.350/.351 and got into 8 games with the Las Vegas 51s (5 for 16, 2 2B, BB). With Mexicali, he hit .273/.348/.507 in winter ball, with 35 runs, 8 home runs, 33 RBI and 19 doubles in 58 games. He was 8th in the LMP in runs, 4th in doubles (between Leo Heras and Marquez Smith), tied Heras and Jon Weber for 8th in home runs, ranked 10th in RBI (between Issmael Salas and Eric Farris), was 3rd in slugging (behind Jose Manuel Rodriguez and Heras) and was third in OPS (after Heras and Rodriguez).

After his excellent winter, he was back with Binghamton for all of 2015, hitting .240/.318/.382 with 10 home runs, now starting at catcher. In 2015-2016, he hit .272/.323/.364 for the Aguilas. He then was with the Mexican national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers in March 2016. He was 0 for 7 with two runs as their main backstop, but Mexico still won a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. He scored their first run in their rout in the finale against Nicaragua, reaching on an error by Omar Obregon and coming home on a hit by Esteban Quiroz. In the summer of 2016, he hit .269/.347/.364 for Binghamton, fielding .996 and he was 5 for 15 for the Las Vegas 51s, reaching AAA. In the winter, he batted .286/.374/.407 for Mexicali. He was 2 for 7 with a walk and a run in the 2017 Caribbean Series, splitting time with All-Star Sebastián Valle.

He then joined Valle as Mexico's catchers for the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
