Biographical Information[edit]
Won-seok Oh pitched in the KBO and for the South Korea national baseball team.
Oh represented South Korea in the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup. The SK Wyverns picked him in the first round of the 2020 KBO draft. Oh had a 5.59 ERA in 8 games in 2020, then he went 7-6 with a 5.89 ERA in 2021. He won 30 points in the KBO Rookie of the Year voting, and he ranked 5th. Oh improved to 6-8 with a 4.50 ERA in 2022, and he fanned 7 in 5 2/3 innings with a run allowed in the 2022 Korean Series Game 3. The SSG Landers beat the Kiwoom Heroes in 6 games, and Oh won his first title. He had a 8-10 record with a 5.23 ERA in 2023, led the league in runs and ranked 4th in losses (tied with Charlie Barnes, Je-seong Bae and Won-joon Choi) and 4th in walks (between Kwang-hyun Kim and Félix Peña). He also attended the 2023 KBO All-Star Game, and he pitched a shutout inning. Oh made it onto Korea's roster for the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. Oh relieved Eui-lee Lee in the 7th inning against Japan, and he pitched a shutout inning with a strikeout against Shogo Sakakura. Korea won Silver in that event because of Makoto Kadowaki's walk-off hit. He was 6-9 with a 5.03 ERA in 2024.
Oh's repertoire included a fastball (peak 92.6 mph), curveball, slider and changeup.
