West Haven Whitecaps

From BR Bullpen

In 1980 the Eastern League team in West Haven, CT changed its name from the West Haven Yankees to the West Haven Whitecaps. An Oakland A's farm team, they had the worst record in the EL at 47-92. Managed by Ed Nottle, the team was outscored 721-512 and plated the fewest runners in the league. They also drew the fewest fans (30,112), with 24,695 less than the next club. Tim Conroy (8-14, 6.18), Rich Bordi (4-6, 4.14), Shooty Babitt (.290/~.387/.401) and Keith Comstock (2-4, 4.19) were among the future major-leaguers on the team. The Whitecaps had no All-Stars, though Rick Tronerud (5-8, 3.10) was fourth in the circuit in ERA. S. Bert Bradley (3-15, 6.47) led the EL in losses, runs allowed (121) and earned runs allowed (105). They were renamed the West Haven A's in 1981.
