The West Haven Yankees had a grand and glorious, though short-lived, history. After relocating from Manchester, NH where they had been known as the Manchester Yankees, they captured the Eastern League title under the leadership of skipper Bobby Cox in their inaugural season of 1972 and won additional championships in 1976, 1977, and 1979. In 1980, West Haven affiliated with the Oakland A's and changed names to the West Haven Whitecaps.
