Wen-Sheng Lu has played and managed in Taiwan.
Lu appeared for the Taiwan national team in the 1983 Asian Championship, 1983 Intercontinental Cup and 1984 Olympics. In the 1984 Amateur World Series, Lu hit .300/.391/.550 as a 2B/3B. He played in the 1985 Asian Championship, 1985 Intercontinental Cup, 1986 Amateur World Series, 1987 Asian Championship and 1987 Intercontinental Cup.
The Kaohsiung native signed with the Uni-President Lions when they were founded in 1990, and he hit .164/.231/.195 in 52 games. He attended the 1991 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 3-for-9 with a double. Lu hit .200/.293/.233 in 1991, and he had a .207/.324/.241 batting line in the 1991 Taiwan Series. The Lions beat the Wei Chuan Dragons in 7 games, and Lu won his first Taiwan Series title. He attended the All-Star Game in the next summer, and he 3-for-5 with 2 RBI this time. He ended up hitting .252/.310/.321 this year.
In 1993, Lu slumped to .217/.287/.253 and he hit .190/.257/.210 in 1994. Due to his poor batting, Lu lost his starting spot, so he only played 47 games combined in the next two seasons. He had a .208/.282/.266 batting line in 1997, then he played 82 games with a .237/.300/.260 batting line in 1998. He announced his retirement after the 1998 season.
Lu then went into coaching. He coached for the Lions from 1999 through 2002, the Macoto Gida in 2003 and Macoto Cobras from 2004-2006. In 2007, he became manager of the Lions. He guided them to titles in the 2007 Taiwan Series, 2008 Taiwan Series and 2009 Taiwan Series his first three years at the helm. After missing out in 2010, he won the 2011 Taiwan Series, becoming the first four-time Taiwan Series-winning manager. He also coached for Taiwan in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Lu was implicated in a game-fixing scandal before the 2012 season, and he left the Lions. It was proven that he was innocent later.
Overall, Lu hit .212/.284/.250 with 284 hits in 9 seasons in the CPBL. He was 280-220-10 with 4 Taiwan Series title as a manager.
