From BR Bullpen

I've taken the liberty of moving your biography to your user page proper, as that is where it should be. Thanks for all your recent input. I've been formatting a few of the bios you have created, in order to conform to our standards. Have a look at the changes I've made and you'll soon be able to create pages that don't need major editing! We've deliberately kept our page standards simple to allow newcomers to learn how to do them quickly. Don't hesitate to ask me or any of the other regulars here any questions you may have by using our talk pages. All the best, Philippe (talk) 15:43, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

We usually list someone as a "coach" on the calendar pages or lists of school alumni if they're a MLB coach. If they only coached in the minors or college, you can use "minor league coach" or "college coach". Keep up the fine work on the coaching profiles! - Mischa (talk) 15:59, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

One other point - the category "college coach" is only for head coaches, not assistant coaches. You can (and should) still document when someone was assistant coach, they just don't get a category for it. - Mischa (talk) 16:09, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Any thoughts on new featured article candidates? The last few have been ones I proposed. We're probably due for a MLB player given our usual rotation of MLB player/player noted mostly for non-MLB work/team or event. - Mischa (talk) 13:38, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

A couple of formatting points[edit]

  1. "BR page" (note the lower-case p) is reserved for major leaguers. Use "BR Minors page" for minor leaguers or "BR Register page" for those who have played internationally or exist in the Baseball-Reference data base for other reasons.
  2. Leave a blank line between High School and Born. That space is for a player's major league debut date and date of final game. While most of the persons for whom you are creating pages will never play in the majors, it is standard form in the vital statistics section of a player's page.

That said, thanks for all your contributions. Philippe (talk) 17:32, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification on BR pages and spacing. In regards to a featured MLB player, I haven't been working on any of their bios lately. I am just now checking Sean Kazmar who had 12 years between major league appearances. You could also feature Andrew McCutchen who is returning to the Pirates - I haven't checked his bio on here recently.

Women in Baseball[edit]

Since there are more women getting involved in baseball both as coaches and front office personnel, perhaps Baseball Reference could add a category for them. I know there is already a category for "female players," but that is a different group.

We did have a women in baseball category at one point in time and it got eliminated at some point. I think the decision then was to just list the women wherever they were involved (ex. Minor League Umpires, Canada women's national baseball team players, Owner, Broadcaster, Writer, Minor League Players, etc.) Regarding the earlier featured article note, we usually change it every 3 months or so (sometimes longer). We try to rotate between a guy well known from MLB, a player mostly known from elsewhere (ex. a player from Japan or Europe or a guy who washed out of the majors quickly but had an interesting career in the minors or abroad) and an event or team. You can propose a candidate by creating a page in the format of BR Bullpen:Featured Article Candidates/Oscar Levis or

The Mike Griffin who managed the Czech team is this guy, not this one. I changed the edits. - Mischa (talk) 10:09, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

There is a Bullpen page for Jaime Vieira which I created earlier this year only to discover she now uses the name Jaime Lever. What is the best way to handle this change?

I will move the page. - Mischa (talk) 14:41, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

My apologies for editing the Aritz Garcia page before it was done; you had removed the 'under construction' tag so thought you were complete, which is why I added in more details about his Spanish career. - Mischa (talk) 16:33, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

I removed the under construction tag while I made final edits and then checked things over. Suddenly a bunch of changes started to happen! In the future I will make sure I am completely finished before removing the under construction tag. The additions you made were things I didn't know about.

That's why it's a team effort! Thanks for all your work on the minor league coaches! - Mischa (talk) 18:20, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
