Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Griffin began his baseball career in high school in Canada. He had five operations to overcome injury then played college ball in the USA. He coached for the Cambodian national team in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games. By 2008, he was playing in the Czech Extraliga for the Arrows Ostrava and hit .356/.414/.583. He was 8th in average, second to Pavel Budský in slugging, tied for third with 47 hits (even with Aleš Navrátil), second with 13 doubles (trailing Michal Jurdzin), third with five homers (behind Budský and Martin Střítecký), second with 77 total bases (behind Budský), third with 31 runs (behind Tomáš Polanský and Budský) and third with 31 RBI (behind Budský and Střítecký). In 2009, Griffin went 2 for 8 with two walks and a double. He did not play in 2010 but coached for the Czech national team in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup. He has also coached in the Extraliga. In 2011, he moved to China to work for MLB International there. He managed the Czech Republic in the 2014 European Championship and 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers (when they nearly upset host Mexico, 2-1).
