Biographical Information

Tom Acker was signed by the New York Giants as an amateur free agent in 1948. He spent that season with the Wisconsin State League's Oshkosh Giants, going 3-6, 5.06. Acker was back with Oshkosh in 1949, finishing 14-7. Acker spent the 1950 season with the Tri-State League Knoxville Smokies, finishing 6-3 with a 3.07 ERA. He was drafted by the International League Buffalo Bisons on December 4, 1950, in the minor league draft. On October 14, 1951, the Buffalo team traded him (along with Moe Savransky) to the Cincinnati Reds for Jim Bolger. Acker was called to serve in the United States military in 1952. After he fulfilled his service, he returned with the 1954 Texas League Tulsa Oilers (7-8, 5.08) and spent the 1955 season with the Southern Association Nashville Volunteers (11-8, 3.26).

Tom spent the next four seasons, 1956 through 1959, as part of the Cincinnati Redlegs pitching staff. Acker appeared in 153 games, going 19-13 with a 4.12 ERA in 380 innings. On November 21, 1959, he was traded to the Kansas City Athletics for Frank House but he never played for Kansas City. Instead, he spent his last season in pro ball with the 1960 International League Richmond Virginians, going 0-2, 5.06 in 15 games to end his career.
