Biographical Information

In 1993 All-American second baseman Todd Walker led the entire NCAA with 102 RBI and 214 total bases and was second with 109 hits to Arizona State's Paul Lo Duca (129). He was named Most Outstanding Player of the 1993 College World Series after going 2 for 4 with a two-run home run and 3 RBI in the Championship Game. He is the brother-in-law of Chad Hutchinson. In the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, Walker was the top hitter for Team USA, edging out fellow Todd Todd Helton. He hit .409/.438/.773 with 7 doubles, 3 homers, 11 runs and 21 RBI in 11 games. The lone negative was defense, as he fielded .840 at 3B and .875 at 2B. He was among the Cup leaders in RBI (first), hits (tied for second with José Estrada and Ermidelio Urrutia, four shy of Omar Linares) and home runs (tied for 4th with Lourdes Gourriel Sr., Andrew Scott and Urrutia, trailing Orestes Kindelan, Linares and Hidenori Taniguchi). He was 2 for 5 with a double, homer and 4 RBI from the cleanup spot as the US upset Japan, 6-3, in the semifinals. In the Gold Medal game, he hit 4th and played third base for the US in a 9-4 loss to Cuba. He was 3 for 4 with a double, homer, run and 3 RBI, getting half of the US hits off Lazaro Valle and Omar Ajete. He handled 5 chances at the hot corner without an error. He failed to make the Cup All-Star team at 3B, losing out to Linares; had Walker played any other position, he might have been chosen. As it was, no Americans made it.

He became eligible for election to the Hall of Fame in 2013 but did not receive any votes and was dropped from the ballot. He did announcing for ESPN during the 2017 CWS Regionals and 2018 CWS Regionals, both in Tallahassee, FL and for the 2021 CWS Super Regionals, 2022 Super Regionals, and 2023 CWS Super Regionals.
