Biographical Information[edit]

Tim Doherty began his coaching career at Oral Roberts University in 1989, then was hitting coach at Seminole Community College from 1990 to 1992. He also served as an associate scout for the Cleveland Indians while coaching at Seminole. In 1993, he became an assistant coach with the University of Southwestern Louisiana and from 1994 to 1997 was at Southwest Texas State University.

There is a gap from 1998-2002 in his coaching profile. It appears he ran a baseball training facility at some point in his career which may have covered these years.

Doherty was a coach with the Kansas City T-Bones of the independent Northern League from 2003-2009, the latter three seasons as their hitting coach He then managed the club for two seasons. Doherty assisted Boston Red Sox hitting coach Dave Magadan in 2012 and was the hitting coach of the Rochester Red Wings in 2013-2015. Moving to the Colorado Rockies' organization, he was hitting coach of the Grand Junction Rockies in 2016, the Hartford Yard Goats in 2017 and the Albuquerque Isotopes in 2018-2019. After the 2019 season he also served as the hitting coach for the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League. He was scheduled to return to Albuquerque in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Doherty ascended to coaching nirvana in 2021 when he was named a major league coach with the Rockies. After the season ended, however, he was let go along with assistant hitting coach Jeff Salazar.

Doherty joined the Washington Nationals player development staff in 2022 as a hitting coach with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. After the season he coached the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League. Doherty moved up one level in 2023 as hitting coach for the Harrisburg Senators.
