Biographical Information

Hue Thor debuted for the Laotian national team in the 2023 East Asian Baseball Cup; he was 0 for 9 and allowed 15 hits, 3 walks and 10 runs (8 earned) in 7 innings (fanning 8) in a loss to Siraphop Nadee and Thailand. In the 2022 Asian Games (held in 2023 after delays from COVID-19 restrictions), he batted third and played second base in their opener, also against Thailand. Facing Nadee, he hit into a double play his first time up, going 0-for-4 and making three errors. The next day went much better, against Singapore. He drew a first-inning walk from Eleazar Jie Xian Ng. In the second, he moved to the mound, replacing Yayua Wa with two men on, one out and a 1-0 deficit. He allowed a single to Ody Joo Shua Tay then got Kohei Wong out but an error on the play made it 2-0. He struck out Mohamad Danis Bin Mohamad Azminin to end the inning. He singled in Yer Her in the third for the team's first run then drew a fifth-inning walk and scored the go-ahead run to make it 3-2. After he allowed two in the 6th to fall behind, his RBI single off Ryota Wong drove in Chinu Va with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning and he came around to score. Soulapixa Khounchaleun relieved him with two outs and one on in the 7th, Thor returning to second base. He returned to the mound in the 8th with one on and one out and retired five of the next six to close out a 8-7 win. It was Laos's only Asian Games win in baseball (going 0-2 in 2018 and losing their other six games in 2023) through that season. He had reached four times, scored two, driven in two and stolen four bases while working seven innings over his two stints (7 H, 4 UER, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K; his teammates allowed 3 runs, two earned, in two innings and were 3-for-24 at the plate) as he was pretty much a one-man show. He finished the Games at .154/.313/.154 as he was otherwise hitless. He pitched three other games, allowing 11 runs (7 earned) in 8 innings. He fielded .727 for the event. He was among the Games' leaders in steals (tied for first with Tsung-Che Cheng), games pitched (tied for second, two behind Wa), IP (third, after Nadee and Wa), hits allowed (tied Wa for 3rd at 17), runs allowed (3rd, after teammates Wa and Chuevakham), earned runs allowed (tied for 7th with Phoomwut Wutthikorn), walks (7, tied for 6th with Khounchaleun), strikeouts (16, 1st, one ahead of Vladimir Eguia), assists (10, tied Yun Lu for 10th) and errors (1st with six, two ahead of Bee Sengsoulin). He thus had led in offensive, pitching and defensive categories.
