Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Terry Gilmore spent five years in the minors, four of them involving at least some time at AAA. He was 43-34.

Gilmore was a ABCA NCAA Division II All-American in 1987. He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 20th round of the 1987 amateur draft. Debuting that year with the Spokane Indians, he was 7-0 with a 2.59 ERA. He finished sixth in the Northwest League in ERA, between Scott Chiamparino and Tom Gordon. He walked only 24 in 101 innings. He led the NWL in innings pitched and was two off of the lead in wins.

Gilmore split 1988 between the Wichita Pilots (11-7, 4.61, 35 walks in 168 innings, a Texas League-leading 20 homers allowed) and the Las Vegas Stars (1-1, 4.76). In 1989, Gilmore was 8-10 with a save and a 4.70 ERA for Las Vegas; in 172 1/3 innings, he walked 25 and allowed 199 hits. He was only 4 hits allowed behind Jeff Heathcock, the Pacific Coast League leader.

Gilmore was a starter-reliever in 1990, going 13-7 with 6 saves and a 5.13 ERA for Las Vegas. He got the win in the AAA All-Star Game, allowing 1 run in 2 1/3 IP for the National League in relief of Dorn Taylor; Scott Chiamparino took the loss. Gilmore was two wins shy of PCL leader Jeff Bittiger. In 1991, the southpaw struggled in his final season. He was 2-7 with a 6.90 ERA for Las Vegas and 1-2, 6.04 for Wichita.
