Biographical Information[edit]

Jeff Bittiger hit a home run on September 22, 1986 as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The opposing pitcher was Bob Kipper. Bittiger started and won the game, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 earned runs, walking 4 and striking out 5. Jeff won his only start for the Minnesota Twins on Labor Day, 1987. Overall, he pitched 33 games in the majors, 25 of those appearances coming with the Chicago White Sox in 1988, going 4-6 with a 4.77 ERA.

Pitching in the minor leagues for an impressive 23 seasons, Jeff finished 193-115 with a 3.49 ERA in 427 games (411 starts). He originally began his career as a third baseman before converting to pitching in 1981.

Jeff later was a scout for the Oakland A's, signing Andrew Bailey, Brad Hertzler, Anthony Recker and Vin Mazzaro.
