- 1989 - Johnny Bench and Carl Yastrzemski are voted into the Hall of Fame.
- 1995 - Hideo Nomo retires from the Kintetsu Buffaloes, allowing him to use a loophole that will allow him to become the first Japanese player in Major League Baseball since Masanori Murakami.
