Retirement from baseball is when a player (voluntarily or othwerise) stops playing professional baseball. Players have often come out of retirement to try again - some like Roger Clemens have done so multiple times. Others, like Jim Palmer, failed in their comeback bids. Hideo Nomo retired from Nippon Pro Baseball to exploit a loophole in the rules that allowed him to come to the USA.
