- 1929 - The New York Yankees announce the usage of numbers on the back of player's uniforms, a practice that will become standard quickly.
- 1976 - Robin Roberts and Bob Lemon are voted into the Hall of Fame.
- 1997 - Katsuo Osugi is elected into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.
- 2003 - Minnesota Twins part-timer David Ortiz (pictured) signs as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox, where he will become a star immediately.
