- 1914 - Connie Mack sells Eddie Collins to the Chicago White Sox for $50,000. Mack's Philadelphia Athletics have been hurt by defections to the Federal League.
- 1977 - In a massive four-team trade, Bert Blyleven and John Milner go to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Al Oliver and Jon Matlack to the Texas Rangers and Willie Montanez to the New York Mets while the Atlanta Braves get no major names.
- 1987 - The Cincinnati Reds pick up young hurlers Jose Rijo and Tim Birtsas from the Oakland Athletics for veteran Dave Parker.
- 1999 - Maels Rodríguez is timed at 100 mph, the first pitcher in Cuban National League history to reach triple digits on the radar gun.
- 2008 - Joe Gordon (pictured) becomes the first player elected to the Hall of Fame under the revised Veterans Committee system. Seven years had passed since the last VC enshrinement.
