December 22: Today's featured birthday is that of Ken Landreaux, who turns 70.
- 1926 - Bob O'Farrell wins the 1926 National League Most Valuable Player Award, beating out Hughie Critz.
- 1927 - The National Board of Arbitration rules that the Texas League cannot add teams in Tulsa, OK and Oklahoma City, OK without the permission of the Western League. The ruling establishes league territory rights.
- 1973 - For the first time, there are two Amateur World Series held due to political infighting in the baseball world. In the FEMBA-sponsored Series, Rich Wortham of the USA beats Dennis Martinez of Nicaragua, 1-0, in a pitching duel.
- 1988 - The Chicago Cubs deal away Rafael Palmeiro, Jamie Moyer and Drew Hall to the Texas Rangers; they receive Curtis Wilkerson, Mitch Williams, Paul Kilgus and three others in a poor deal for Chicago.
- 1990 - The San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays pull off a blockbuster trade. San Diego gets Fred McGriff and Tony Fernandez while Toronto gets Roberto Alomar (pictured) and Joe Carter.
