Talk:Buck O'Neil
Greatest Personality in the History of Baseball! He is at LEAST Yogi's equal. An ambassador equal to Bob Eucker and still 10 times the player he ever was.
-- It's not hard to be a better player than Bob Uecker and having the greatest personality doesn't earn you a spot in the Hall of Fame. There are many better Negro League players than O'Neil who deserve enshrinement and it's a shame that they have earned a fraction of his fame. - Mischa
.216 in back-to-back years? Can someone check this against Figueredo's Cuban Winter League statistical encyclopedia - I don't have a copy (yet). - --Mischa 19:09, 1 September 2006 (EDT)
The Billy Williams article says O'Neil signed him; it looks like there's some controversy about some of his credited signings. Did he sign Williams? - Mischa (talk) 21:47, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Removing statistical tables[edit]
This will be controversial, but I think it is now time to remove the detailed statistical tables for Negro League players that were added in the early days of the bullpen. At the time, Negro League statistics were hard to come by, but things have changed now that the Seamshead database has not only gone mainstream, but has reached an agreement with Baseball-Reference to be used on its site. So the tables now include statistics that will become progressively more and more outdated. Let me know what you think. Philippe (talk) 12:32, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- I think the idea behind them originally was good. Document the stats that aren't readily available. But now, if they are available, especially on the main site, they should be removed. Jeff (talk) 17:35, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- It's not particularly controversial. The charts are now pretty redundant. As they are considered major leaguers now, we should treat them like major leaguers, and big leaguers don't have charts on their pages. Alexsautographs (talk) 22:58, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
Looks like we have a consensus. I'll start deleting these tables as I run into them. Philippe (talk) 19:02, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
