Biographical Information[edit]

Sven Schüller has pitched in the minors.

Sven got his start with his hometown Wuppertal Stingrays then moved on to the Regensburg Legionäre. He appeared in the 2012 MLB European Academy. In the 2013 European Cup, he pitched for Regensburg's top squad despite having not yet played in Bundesliga-1 (only Bundesliga-2). He started against the Bern Cardinals but was hammered for four runs in 1/3 of an inning and was yanked; his team rallied for a 14-8 win. He did better against Unipol Bologna, with 1 1/3 innings and one unearned run to close up a 9-4 loss. He was 1-1 with a 0.64 ERA for Germany in the 2013 European Junior Championship, losing to Spain and beating Sweden. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in July 2013, having not yet pitched in Bundesliga-1. He was the second German player to sign in the 2013 signing period, following Julsan Kamara. The scouts were Gene Grimaldi and Bob Engle.

Sven made his U.S. debut in 2014, posting a 3.60 ERA in 6 appearances for the AZL Dodgers. He was 1-3 with a 6.82 ERA in 13 games for the 2015 AZL Dodgers, allowing 30 walks and 32 hits in 31 2/3 IP. He made his debut for the German national team at a senior level of competition in the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He relieved former major leaguer Will Ohman in the top of the 7th with two men on, two outs and a 5-2 deficit against the Czech national team. He walked Jakub Malik then served up a two-run single to Martin Červenka. He walked Přemek Chroust then finally got an out, whiffing Petr Zýma. The 8th proved to have more troubles. He gave up three straight singles, to Jakub Hajtmar, Adam Hajtmar and Matěj Hejma to make it 8-2, then was replaced by Daniel Thieben, who allowed both inherited runners to score, giving Schüller a 54.00 ERA for the event.

Schüller split 2016 between the AZL Dodgers (2 R in 7 IP) and Ogden Raptors (2-0, Sv, 4.28 in 15 G) then was back with Germany for the 2016 European Championship.
