Biographical Information

Will Ohman was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 8th round of the 1998 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Steve Fuller and made his pro debut that summer.

Ohman made his major league debut in September 2000, but blew out his elbow in winter ball after the 2001 season. He had Tommy John surgery and missed all of the 2002 and 2003 seasons. He returned to the majors in 2005 and finished with ten seasons in the majors, working in 483 games. His 83 games pitched were second in the National League in 2008, three behind Pedro Feliciano.

Having been born in West Germany, he pitched for the German national team in the 2012 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, working two games (2 H, 1 BB, 0 R in 2 IP). He was Germany's second-oldest player in the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, three years younger than Enorbel Marquez. The 38-year-old only faced one batter; he relieved Kevin Trisl with one on and two out, down 5-2 in the 7th inning against the Czech Republic. He walked Jakub Sládek on four pitches then was relieved by Sven Schüller; Sládek came around to score, giving him an infinite ERA.

Ohman became a pitching coach with the Palm Beach Cardinals in 2018-2019.
