Biographical Information

Sung-hoon Choi has pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Choi was 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA for the South Korean national team in the 2011 Baseball World Cup, though his RA was 4.50. He made four appearances. Against Germany, he helped stave off an upset, tossing four innings (1 H, 2 BB, 1 UER, 3 K) in relief of Jin-woo Im in a 10-inning, 6-5 win. He also got the win against Nicaragua (2 1/3 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 0 K), overcoming wildness. He struggled as the second of 7 Korean pitchers against the Dominican Republic (5 H, 2 R, K in 3 2/3 IP, both runs coming on a single by Freddy Guzmán). In his last game, he relieved Hyoun-taek Oh in the 5th with a scoreless tie and one on against Team Canada. He made an error on a bunt by Chris Bisson, struck out Skyler Stromsmoe and allowed the game-losing hit to Tim Smith. Jimmy Van Ostrand hit into an error by CF Jong-wook Ko, then Emerson Frostad singled to make it 3-0. Shawn Bowman struck out, but Choi then threw a wild pitch for a third unearned run to his credit. He finished the day with 2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 WP, 3 UER and 4 K.

The LG Twins took Choi in the second round of the 2012 draft. He went 5-6 with a 4.42 ERA in 37 games as a rookie in 2012.
