Biographical Information[edit]

Sunao Imakurusu played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years. His brother Isao Imakurusu also played in NPB.

Imakurusu joined the Mainichi Orions in 1950, and he was traded with Kashiwa Odano to the Nishitetsu Lions for Keitaro Kitagawa in the middle of that season. He hit .237/.279/.279 in his first season, and his batting line improve to .291/.331/.369 in 1951. Imakurusu hit .290/.359/.391 with 28 doubles in 1952, and he was 2nd in the Pacific League in doubles (1 behind Tokuji Iida), 9th in runs (between Yasuhiro Fukami and Michio Fujii) and 8th in hits (between Fukami and Yasuya Hondo). He played 81 games in 1953 with a .253/.306/.329 batting line, and he hit .267/.332/.295 in 1954. Imakurusu recorded a .258/.340/.360 batting line in 1955, and he slumped to .196/.281/.216 in 1956. He announced his retirement after that season, and he coached Nishitetsu's minor league team from 1957 to 1959 and their big club from 1960 to 1965.

Overall, Imakurusu hit .266/.324/.334 with 439 hits and 4 homers in 7 seasons in NPB.
