Biographical Information

Pitcher Steve Hamrick spent 6 years in the minors, going 44-48 and reaching AAA.

He was drafted in the 15th round of the 1974 amateur draft by the Chicago Cubs. He led the Gulf Coast League with 87 K and a 0.93 ERA in 1974. He tied for third in wins to cost him the pitching Triple Crown. In 1975, Hamrick was 5-6 with a 1.95 ERA for the Key West Cubs and was 3rd in the Florida State League in ERA. Promoted during the year to the Midland Cubs, he was 7-2 there with a 4.69 ERA.

Hamrick led the 1976 Texas League with 29 games started. The southpaw was 11-11 with a 4.23 ERA. He struck out 132 in 185 innings, second to John Caneira in whiffs, but walked 112, one behind leaeder Balor Moore. Hamrick was on the Cubs' 1977 spring roster, but never pitched in the majors.

With the Wichita Aeros in 1977, Steve was 7-11 with a 4.87 ERA. The Cubs dealt him to the Seattle Mariners for Larry Cox. With the San Jose Missions, he began 1978 with a 1-4, 7.46 record. That June, the Mariners traded him to the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named later (Gary Lance). He was 4-6 with a save and a 6.12 ERA for the Omaha Royals.

In 1979, Hamrick split time between Omaha (1-4, 5.76) and the Jacksonville Suns (1-2, 1 Sv, 4.98 in 20 games).
