Biographical Information[edit]

Skeeter Scalzi roomed with Mel Allen, led the Middle Atlantic League in batting, and was declared a major league free agent after "contract mishandling" by the Cleveland Indians [1]. He spent three years in the Navy and then managed for 14 years before an auto crash on June 9, 1960 while driving back to Charleston from Savannah. He was still hospitalized in September of that year [2]. During his recovery, Scalzi would undergo three brain operations [3], but he survived to live another 24 years.
