Biographical Information[edit]
Seon-gi Kim pitched in the minors and in South Korea and for the South Korean national team.
Kim was signed by Seattle Mariners scouts Jamey Storvick and Pat Kelly in 2009. [1] He made his pro debut with the AZL Mariners, going 6-2 with a 5.14 ERA. He walked only 12 and fanned 71 in 61 1/3 IP but allowed 76 hits. he also pitched three shutout frames for the Pulaski Mariners, whiffing seven more. He tied for second in the Arizona League in wins, two behind Robinson Yambati, and was second in strikeouts, only two behind Ismael Guillon. In 2011, he pitched for the Clinton Lumber Kings (0-2, 4.74 in 4 G), AZL M's (1-0, 0 R in 9 IP) and Pulaski (1-2, 2 Sv, 5.76 in 12 G). His control vanished as he walked 29 in 57 2/3 IP.
In 2012, Kim was with Clinton (4-4, 4.59 in 14 G) and the Everett AquaSox (2-0, 0.75 in 2 G). He then pitched for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League (3 R in 1 1/3 IP) and the Adelaide Bite in the 2012-2013 Australian Baseball League and had a 1-2, 6.02 record down under. In 2013, he had a 5-5, 7.00 record with one save in 46 games for the High Desert Mavericks. He ended his time in the M's chain in 2014, with the Mavericks (0-1, 16.05 in 7 G) and Lumber Kings (2-3, 3.04 in 23 G). He had gone 21-19 with 3 saves and a 5.03 ERA in 125 minor league games (40 starts).
From 2015-2017, he completed his mandatory military service with the Sangmu Phoenix team. [2] He pitched for South Korea in the 2017 Asian Championship, he did not pitch before starting the Bronze Medal Game. He got the win over the Philippines national team, with 5 shutout innings (3 H, 1 BB, 4 K); Chan-ho Kim relieved with a 9-0 lead. [3]
He is on the Nexen Heroes for 2018 and may make his KBO debut that year.
