Biographical Information[edit]

Sean Mendoza has played as high as AAA and has been on the Venezuelan national team.

Mendoza was signed by Houston Astros scouts Oz Ocampo, Tom Shafer and Jose Palacios in July 2016. [1] He played all four infield spots and two outfield spots for the 2017 DSL Astros Orange, hitting .301/.384/.342. He came to the US in 2018, batting .270/.368/.339 for the GCL Astros. Repeating with the same team a year later, he fell to .235/.344/.280 in his utility role but did go 10-for-11 in steal attempts. The 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He had a busy 2021. In the Final Olympic Qualifier, he was the youngest player on the Venezuelan roster (about a year younger than Diego Rincones) but did not get into a game. [2] He bounced between four Astros affiliates that summer, playing for the FCL Astros (2 for 9, 3 BB, 2 R, RBI), Fayetteville Woodpeckers (.194/.263/.333 in 23 G), Corpus Christi Hooks (3 for 14, 2B) and Sugar Land Skeeters (4 for 17, 2B). He also was with Venezuela for the U-23 Baseball World Cup, going 1 for 6 with a RBI as a backup third baseman for the champs. [3]
