Biographical Information[edit]

Sam Street has pitched as high as AA and for the Australian national team. He is not to be confused with Sam Streeter, the former Negro League pitcher.

Street had a 6-2, 4.13 record with a save his first year in junior college then improved to 7-2, 2.24 with a save the next year, making All-Conference. [1] was 10-3 with a 2.73 ERA in college in 2012. He was 3rd in the Great West Conference in ERA and led in wins. He joined Mark Leiter Jr. and Ryan Lower as the All-GWC pitchers. [2] Only Kerry Doane pitched more complete games in NCAA Division I than his 8. [3]

The next year, he was even better at 12-2, 1.81. He won the Western Athletic Conference pitching Triple Crown. He was an obvious pick for WAC Pitcher of the Year. [4] He was 42nd in NCAA Division I in ERA (between Craig Schlitter and Joey DeNato), tied for 5th in wins (one off the lead) and led in complete games (11, 2 ahead of Desmond Russell). [5]

The Pittsburgh Pirates took him in the 16th round of the 2014 amateur draft. The scout was Trevor Haley. [6] He was 1-1 with 5 saves and a 0.98 ERA for the Jamestown Jammers, allowing only a .135/.194/.167 batting line. He tied Josh Lucas and Tyler Mapes for 9th in the New York-Penn League in saves. That winter, he was 2-1 with a 4.08 ERA for the Melbourne Aces in the 2014-2015 Australian Baseball League. He went 3-1 with six saves and a 2.10 ERA for the West Virginia Power, walking 13 in 85 2/3 innings.

Street slipped with Melbourne (7.94) in 2015-2016. He was much better that summer at 3-2, 2.26 with a save in 27 games for the Bradenton Marauders. He was 1-0 with two saves and a 3.38 ERA for the 2016-2017 Aces. He was then on Australia's designated pitcher pool for the 2017 World Baseball Classic but was not activated.

Back with Bradenton for 2017, he went 4-2 with two saves and a 2.74 ERA, walking only 14 in 69 innings. He did not pitch in Australia that winter and only saw three games for the 2018 Altoona Curve (Sv, 0 R in 3 IP) before the Bucs cut ties with him. He was picked up by the indy Kansas City T-Bones, going 0-1 with a save and a 4.03 ERA for them.

He made Australia's squad for the 2019 Premier 12. He pitched one game, relieving Daniel Schmidt in the 8th against South Korea, a 4-0 deficit and two outs. For a guy who had such exceptional control in the past, it was a bad day as he hit Kyoung-min Hur and Min-woo Park then walked Ha-seong Kim and Jung-hoo Lee to force in a run. Luke Wilkins relieved him. [7]
