Biographical Information[edit]

Collegiate[edit]

Ryan Sheldon played for the Barton County Community College Cougars. After getting a medical redshirt in the first year, in the second season Ryan pitched in 16 games, 11 of them as a starter. He had a 5.23 ERA in 63.2 innings of work with 50 strikeouts and 1 complete game.

Sheldon went on to play with the University of Nebraska - Kearney Lopers of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for two seasons where he was Pitcher of the Year both years.

Minors[edit]

In 2009, Ryan played for the Sioux Falls Canaries in the American Association. He appeared in 4 games before getting released. He had no record and no saves with a 1.67 ERA. He struck out 5 and walked 4.

Normal CornBelters (Frontier League)[edit]

The Normal CornBelters signed Sheldon on May 4, 2010.

In his first appearance for the CornBelters, Ryan came in from the bullpen in the 4th inning and pitched 4.0 innings against the River City Rascals on May 25. He allowed 1 unearned run, struck out 3, walked 1, and did not figure in the decision.

After several more outings in relief, Sheldon got his first start for the CornBelters on June 15 against the Florence Freedom. He threw 6.0 innings allowing only 1 run, walking 4, and striking out 6. He left with the lead but the bullpen faltered in the 9th inning as the CornBelters lost 3-2.

In the game on July 6 against the Oakland County Cruisers, Ryan retired 13 batters in a row at one point. In 8.0 innings of work, he gave up 3 runs (only 1 earned), 2 hits, walked only 1 and struck out 7. Mike LaLuna came on in the 9th inning to earn his 4th save t give the CornBelters a 6-3 win.

On July 18 in a start against the Southern Illinois Miners, Sheldon pitched 8 strong innings where at one point he was overpowering as he threw a complete game 9-2 victory. Along the way hew allowed only 5 hits, walked none, and struck out 15.

Ryan again was overpowering on August 19 when he threw a 3-hit complete game shutout against the Lake Erie Crushers. The CornBelters won 2-0 behind Sheldon's pitching where ha walked only 1 and struck out 9.

At one point during the season, Sheldon dominated Frontier League hitters when he threw 32 innings of scoreless baseball, and 38 innings without an earned run.

Ryan completed the 2010 season with a 9-5 record and a 2.21 ERA (2nd in the Frontier League) while striking out 121 (tied for tops in the league) and walking only 26.
