Biographical Information[edit]
Collegiate[edit]
Mike LaLuna played for the New York Institute of Technology Bears in the Great West Conference. In his first 2 years of college LaLuna played at 3B. He moved to shortstop the last two. He pitched may 5-7 innings each season. In 2007, Mike was Student/Athlete of the Year.
Minors[edit]
In 2008, Mike played for the Sussex Skyhawks in the Canadian-American Association. He was a reliable reliever, going 2-1 with a 2.79 ERA. In 42 innings, he struck out 42 and gave up just 27 hits, but walked 26. Sussex won the league championship that season.
At the end of the 2008 season, LaLuna signed as a pitcher with the Detroit Tigers as a free agent. He was assigned to the Oneonta Tigers in the New York-Pennsylvania League, where he pitched the 2009 season. He was 3-5 with two saves and a 4.96 ERA while fanning 53 in 52 2/3 innings.
Normal CornBelters (Frontier League)[edit]
The Normal CornBelters signed Mike on April 14, 2010.
In his first appearance for the CornBelters, LaLuna pitched the final 2 innings on May 22 against the Evansville Otters to help preserve the victory.
Mike earned his first win when the CornBelters defeated the Kalamazoo Kings by a score of 13-12 for Normal's first home victory at the Corn Crib on June 4 as Jeff Cowan belted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th inning.
LaLuna notched his first save against the Kalamazoo Kings on June 12 when he threw a scoreless 9th inning to give the CornBelters a 5-3 win.
Mike ended the season with a total of 9 saves and a 4-5 record with a 3.42 ERA.
