Biographical Information[edit]

Rody Castelló has pitched in Cuba and Russia.

He was 1-1 with a 4.64 ERA for Pinar del Río in 2014-2015, pitching 11 games (5 starts). He was one of seven Cubans to play in the Russian League in 2019. [1] Like a couple other Cubans in Russia, he got Russian citizenship so he could play for the Russian national team. In the 2019 B-Level European Championship, he had the win over Greece. In the finals, he relieved Andrei Lobanov in the 5th with a 2-1 deficit and threw three shutout innings as Russia took a 3-2 lead. In the 8th, though, he faded, allowing a tying homer to Simon Rosenbaum with one out. He walked Jeremy Wolf with two outs and Jake Rosenberg singled. Vadim Balan relieved and let Wolf score, handing Castelló the loss. He finished the event at .583/.643/1.417 with 17 RBI and 6 homers in 5 games while posting a 1-1, 6.75 record. He was 3rd in opponent average in the Blagoevgrad pool (.229, behind Dean Christidis and Evgenii Chernozemsky) and tied Adam Panayotovich for 5th with 11 strikeouts. Among qualifiers, though, only Panayot Zhaltov and Jonathan Kountis had higher ERAs. [2]
