Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Robert Carson saw action in two seasons with the New York Mets.

After attending Hattiesburg High School, Robert was selected by the Mets in the 14th round of the 2007 amateur draft (the scout was Benny Latino) and made his debut that summer with the GCL Mets. He was 1-0 with 7 runs (5 earned) in 9 innings. After going 3-3 with a 1.68 ERA in 11 starts between the GCL Mets and Kingsport Mets the next year, he was 8-10 with a 3.21 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 25 starts for the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2009. In 2010, the lefty pitched for the St. Lucie Mets (7-5, 4.17) and Binghamton Mets (1-6, 8.32). With Binghamton for all of 2011, he was better at 4-11, 5.05 while allowing a .299 average. He tied Mike Colla and Brock Huntzinger for third in the Eastern League in losses. He began 2012 back with Binghamton, now as a reliever, and started strong (0-1, a save, 1.84 in 12 games).

Robert was called up to the majors to replace D.J. Carrasco in May 2012. In his debut on May 18th, he tossed a shutout 7th inning in a rout by the Toronto Blue Jays. He retired Omar Vizquel (who began his major league career when Carson was not even a year old) and Yunel Escobar, walked Colby Rasmus and took down Edwin Encarnacion. Catcher Rob Johnson relieved him in the 8th. Robert was primarily a LOOGY in his brief brush with big league ball, appearing 31 times for 33 innings with a 6.82 ERA. He received a lone plate appearance in his first appearance of 2013, having been pressed into relief early due to a Jon Niese injury, and coaxed a walk from the great Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers, coming around to score on a Daniel Murphy single. Therefore, Carson goes down in history with a 1.000 career OBP and a run scored.
