History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

On June 1st, Johan Santana ended the franchise's 50-year drought without a no-hitter, recording one in the 8,121st game in team history. In addition, R.A. Dickey had a career year, going 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA and league leading totals in games started (33), complete games (5), shutouts (3), innings pitched (233 2/3), strikeouts (230) and batters faced (927). He won the Cy Young Award, beating out Clayton Kershaw (14-9 W-L, 2.53 ERA) and Gio Gonzalez (21-8 W-L, 2.89 ERA).

Despite those achievements, 2012 was one in a stretch of lean years for the club. David Wright was the best offensive performer, hitting .306/.391/.492 with 21 home runs, 93 RBI, 15 stolen bases and a 144 OPS+. Ike Davis led the team with 32 home runs and added 90 RBI, while Scott Hairston was the year's surprise performer, contributing 20 home runs and 57 RBI in a utility role. The bullpen was in rough shape, with closer Frank Francisco getting the boot after posting a 5.53 ERA in 48 games; Bobby Parnell was the best performer, posting a 2.49 mark with 7 saves in 74 games. Wunderkind Matt Harvey made his debut, going 3-5 with a 2.73 ERA in 10 starts.
