Biographical Information

Rawly Eastwick was a third-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 1969. He made it to the majors in 1974 and then formed a superb bullpen tandem with lefty Will McEnaney in 1975 and 1976, leading the National League in saves both years. Unfortunately, in 1977 he became embroiled in contract problems with the Reds' front office, and he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in mid-season for Doug Capilla.

In December 1977, the New York Yankees signed Eastwick as a free agent to a five-year deal for $1.1 million, a large sum at the time. There simply wasn't enough bullpen work to go around at that time, though, with Rich Gossage and Sparky Lyle also being part of the team's pitching staff in 1978. As a result, the Yankees traded Rawly to the Philadelphia Phillies in June of that year, in return for Bobby Brown and Jay Johnstone. From there he bounced to the Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs. His pro career ended when the Cubs released him in April 1982.
