Rafael Eigenmann has played for the Swiss national team.
Debuting for Switzerland in the 2013 B-Level European Championship, the teenager had a RBI single off Britain's Greg Hendrix his first time up and was 0-for-5 the rest of the tournament. [1] He played six games as a freshman at Coppin State that year and hit .250 at Southwestern Community College in 2014. [2] In the 2015 B-Level European Championship, he batted .364/.357/.636 and went deep off Croatia's Slobodan Gales. He was 9th in average and 8th in slugging. [3] Back in the US, he was 2 for 9 for Augustana University in 2016 and hit .225/.244/.300 for them in 2017.
He socked a two-run homer off Paul Astl of champion Austria in the 2017 B-Level European Championship, finishing the event at .235/.381/.529 with 4 runs and 4 RBI in 5 games. [4] In the 2018 CEB Cup, he was 1-for-13 with 6 walks and 2 runs in 4 games for the Therwil Flyers. He tied for the tournament lead in walks. [5] He drove in five runs in five games in the 2019 Federations Cup, producing at a .350/.381/.400 clip. [6] During the 2019 B-Level European Championship, he hit .357/.471/.786 with 6 runs and 6 RBI in 5 games. He was 6th in slugging, trailed only Noah Williamson in HR (3 to 2) and tied for 4th in runners thrown out (3 of 7) - even with Marius Badiu, Kestas Vilimas and Przemyslaw Paluch. [7]
Eigenmann was only 1 for 16 in the 2021 CEB Cup but with 5 walks, 2 runs and 3 RBI in 5 games; he handled 45 chances error-free and threw out 4 of 12 base-stealers. He tied for 4th in walks and tied Pabel Manzanero for the most runners thrown out. [8] He was 1 for 7 with 4 walks, 2 runs and 3 RBI in the 2021 European Championship Qualifier, throwing out the only runner who tried to steal on him. [9] He was 2 for 14 with two walks and a run in the 2022 Confederation Cup and also pitched a game, losing to Kevin Rodriguez and the Marlins Puerto Cruz. He allowed a tourney-high 9 steals, 3 more than Claus Seiser, but threw out 2 to Seiser's 0. [10] He hit .300/.417/.300 with 4 runs in 3 games in the 2022 European Championship Qualifier as Switzerland won a spot in the 2023 European Championship, their first European Championship. He handled 42 chances error-free and threw out the only one who tried to steal again. He led the qualifiers in fielding percentage and only Carlos Rubio had more putouts than his 40. [11]
In the 2023 Confederation Cup, he was 2-for-12 with a run, allowed 4 runs (one earned) in 1 2/3 IP and handled 28 chances error-free. His 12 steals allowed led the event, 8 ahead of Yan Perez and Benjamin Goffaux. [12] In Switzerland's first European Championship game, Eigenmann started behind the dish against Israel at the 2023 Euros. He struck out and walked against Itai Spinoza then was replaced by Nicholas Fischer. His first hit came off Belgium's Kevin De Smedt in Belgium's first European Championship win. He hit .182/.250/.273 for the 2023 Euros, handled 22 chances error-free and allowed 3 steals in 3 tries. [13]
