Biographical Information

Pete Andrelczyk has pitched as high as AAA.

Andrelczyk had a 5-1, 2.86 record as a high school senior. He was redshirted as a college freshman and struggled the next year (23 H, 11 BB, 14 R in 13 2/3 IP, 1 Sv). In 2007, he improved to 2-1, 4.33 with a save. The Baltimore Orioles took him in the 32nd round of the 2007 amateur draft but did not sign him. As Coastal Carolina's closer in 2008, he made more strides, going 6-1 with 9 saves and a 3.75 ERA. He struck out 60 and walked 12 in 48 innings. He was named All-Big South Conference. The Florida Marlins chose him in the fifth round of the 2008 amateur draft; the scout was Joel Matthews.

Pete split the summer of 2008 between the Jamestown Jammers (4 Sv, 4 H, 0 BB, 10 K, 0 R in 8 1/3 IP) and Greensboro Grasshoppers (1-4, Sv, 6.12). He spent 2009 with the Grasshoppers (2-5, 19 Sv, 2.29, 74 K in 59 IP) and Jupiter Hammerheads (2-1, 5.06). He tied B.J. Rosenberg for 7th in the South Atlantic League in saves. In 2010, the right-hander pitched for Jupiter (3-4, 2 Sv, 3.04, .203 opponent average, 30 BB, 72 K in 68 IP) and the Jacksonville Suns (4 R in 5 IP). He kept up his trend of starting the next year at the level where he finished the prior one, and then moving up a step for the fourth year in a row. In 2011, he was with the Suns (5-2, 3.06 in 20 G) and the New Orleans Zephyrs (4-1, 2 Sv, 1.49).

Andrelczyk was then picked for Team USA. In the 2011 Baseball World Cup, the Pennsylvania native allowed one run (to Cuba) in six innings though he walked four and allowed five hits. He had one save (against South Korea) in four outings. He was not as good in the 2011 Pan American Games, in which his 3 appearances led the USA, giving up 3 runs, 2 walks and 1 hit in 2 2/3 IP. Only Chuckie Fick had a higher ERA for the US in the event. The US won Bronze in the World Cup and Silver in the Pan American Games.
