Biographical Information

Mo Sanford was a low draft pick who managed to make it to the majors for three seasons. He pitched for three different teams in three different seasons, starting about half his games.

Sanford was signed as a 32nd round pick in the 1988 amateur draft by the Cincinnati Reds and scout Julian Mock. In the minors, he pitched from 1988-1996 for four different organizations, going 12-6 in Single A ball in 1989 and 13-4 at the same level in 1990. The following year, 1991, he went 10-4 while splitting his time at the Double A and Triple A levels before coming up to the majors for 5 games, where he had an ERA of 3.86. In 1992, he again split his season between Double A and Triple A, going 12-8 although he was much more effective at the lower level. After that season, he was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the expansion draft and pitched 11 times for the Rockies in their inaugural season of 1993, including 6 starts and going 1-2, 5.30. After spending 1994 in the minors, he signed with the Minnesota Twins as a free agent and made his final big league appearances for them in 1995. He pitched 11 times in relief, with no decisions and an ERA of 5.30 once again.

He played in the independent Northern League in 1999 and 2000. In 11 seasons in the minors, his record was 74-54.

He participates in the Champions Baseball Academy in Ohio and has been an assistant to the GM of the Kansas City Royals.
