Biographical Information[edit]

Mitsuo Tateishi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years, and he coached in Japan, Taiwan and South Korea for more than 30 years.

Tateishi was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the third round of the 1975 NPB draft, but he spent his first five seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues, only playing 13 games combined with the big club. Tateishi hit .220/.266/.339 in 62 games in 1981, but he slumped to .188/.253/.238 in 1982. Tateishi struggled again at the plate in 1983, and he recorded a .191/.255/.362 batting line. When Chiaki Sadaoka missed the 1984 season due to foot injury, Tateishi filled his hole at third base and hit .286/.340/.482 in 74 games. He only played 36 games with the big club in 1985, then he announced his retirement in 1986.

After retiring, Tateishi became the fielding coach for the minor league of the Hawks from 1987 to 1988 and for their big club from 1989 to 1992. He then worked as fielding coach for the Chunichi Dragons for their ni-gun team from 1993 to 1995 and from 1996 to 1997. He then became the fielding coach for the Chinatrust Whales from 1998 to 1999. Tateishi was named as minor league fielding coach of the Kintetsu Buffaloes from 2000 to 2004, and he coached the minor league team of the Hanshin Tigers from 2005 to 2012. The Uni-President Lions named him their bench coach in 2014, and he was the fielding coach of the Hanwha Eagles in 2015. Tateishi coached the minor league squad of the Rakuten Golden Eagles from 2016 to 2017, and he became their fielding coach in 2018.

Overall, Tateishi hit .238/.300/.378 with 110 hits and 11 homers in 7 years in NPB.
